You must know how to field dress and care for game meat. Some hunters waste nutritious, tasty meat because they do not know how to field dress game properly. When you handle game after a kill, make sure you keep the meat cool, clean, and dry.

It is your responsibility to salvage all of the meat after harvesting game. This is almost always required by law. Meat is more important than any trophy horn, hide, or antler; and some state regulations prevent the taking of horns or antlers until after all the meat is packed out.
