Hunting With Dogs
When hunting in a public area with dogs, the following conditions and restrictions apply with respect to equipment.
- Muzzleloaders:
- Muzzleloading rifle or muzzleloading handgun with a minimum bore diameter of .44 caliber and a minimum barrel length of 4 ½ inches.
- Single- or double-barreled muzzleloading handguns with a minimum bore diameter of .44 caliber, and use at least 60 grains of black powder or equivalent, and use a projectile of at least 200 grains weight.
- Rifles: Minimum .22 Magnum caliber or any centerfire cartridge
- Shotguns: Loaded with slugs or minimum 00 buckshot
- Spears and knives: They are allowed to be used.
- Cartridge-firing handguns: Minimum .22 magnum caliber load or larger cartridge
The following conditions and restrictions apply with respect to the responsibility of hunting with dogs.
- The dog’s owner or handler shall accompany dog at all times while hunting. Dogs shall be under control at all times and be physically restrained, except when hunting and actively pursuing game.
- The dog’s owner or handler shall be held strictly liable for all actions, injuries, or damages caused by the owner’s dog.
- Dogs shall be under voice control at all times and physically restrained in all safety zones and closed areas.
- Dog identification must be on the dog at all times, including while in a public hunting area and actively pursuing game.
