Types of Kansas Hunting Licenses
Kansas Resident
A resident is a person who has lived in Kansas for at least 60 days.
Active-duty military members who were Kansas residents at the time of entering the service, and immediate family members living with them, are considered to be residents. Visit the Kansas Department of Wildlife & Parks website for more information about residency requirements.
All Kansas residents ages 16 to 74 must have a resident hunting license. Visit the Kansas Department of Wildlife & Parks website for exemptions.
Non-Resident
All non-residents must have a non-resident hunting license. Non-residents must purchase a non-resident hunting license even if they own land in Kansas.
A non-resident who is a registered full-time student in residence at a public or private secondary, post-secondary, or vocational school located in this state may purchase resident licenses and permits, except lifetime licenses. Student must carry evidence of being a full-time student while hunting.
Youth Hunting License
Youth 16 years of age or younger must possess a valid hunting license (unless exempt by Kansas law) and may hunt during any youth/disability season while under the immediate supervision of an adult 18 years of age or older. Permit holders hunting the youth/disability season may also hunt the regular season. Visit the Kansas Department of Wildlife & Parks website for more details.
Senior Hunting License
Kansas residents who are 75 years of age or older are not required to have a hunting license.
Disability License
Kansas does not offer a hunting license specifically for people with disabilities except for resident veterans with 100% disability. Kansas residents who are permanently 100% disabled must possess a valid hunting license (unless exempt by Kansas law). These residents may hunt during any youth/disability season while under the immediate supervision of an adult 18 years of age or older. License holders hunting the youth/disability season may also hunt the regular season. Visit the Kansas Department of Wildlife & Parks website for more details.
Migratory Waterfowl Requirements
All hunters 16 years or age or older must purchase the Kansas Duck Stamp and the Federal Duck Stamp when hunting migratory waterfowl. In addition, hunters are required to have proof of their participation in the Harvest Information Program (HIP).
All waterfowl hunters 16 years of age and older must have a Federal Migratory Bird Hunting and Conservation Stamp (Federal Waterfowl Stamp), and all hunters who are required to obtain a hunting license must also have a Kansas State Waterfowl Stamp and a Kansas Harvest Information Program (HIP) stamp before hunting ducks, geese, or mergansers. (Those not required to have a Kansas hunting license include people hunting their own land and residents 15 years of age and younger.)
License Expiration
Hunting licenses expire 365 days from the date of purchase, except for multi-year and lifetime licenses.
