How Do I Get My State Hunting License?

Depending on your age, you may be required to have the Conservation Permit Card in order to legally buy a license or permit to hunt.

1. Complete the Missouri hunter education certification requirements.
2. Choose the correct permit type.
3. Buy the permit through the Missouri Department of Conservation website or a Missouri–approved retailer.

Types of Missouri Hunting Permits

Missouri Resident

A resident is a person who has lived in Missouri for at least 30 days. Active-duty military members and non-resident students who live in Missouri and attend a school in Missouri are considered residents.

All Missouri residents ages 16 to 64 must have the appropriate resident permit for the species hunted. Visit the Missouri Department of Conservation website for more details.

Non-Resident

All non-residents must have the appropriate non-resident permit for the species hunted. Visit the Missouri Department of Conservation for more details.

Youth Hunting Permit

Missouri residents age 15 or under may hunt wildlife (except deer or turkey) without a permit if they have a hunter education card. Youth who do not have a hunter education card must hunt in the immediate presence of a licensed adult hunter. The adult hunter must have a hunter education card.

Non-residents ages 6 to 15 may purchase permits for specific species.

Senior Hunting Permit

Missouri residents age 65 or older are not required to have a permit to hunt wildlife (except deer or turkey). Other permits and stamps may be required.

Disability Permit

Missouri does not offer a hunting license specifically for people with disabilities. Visit the Missouri Department of Conservation website for information about specialized hunts and other accommodations.

Military and Veteran Permit

Active-duty military members who are stationed in Missouri may purchase a resident hunting permit.

Active-duty military members who are residents of Missouri but stationed elsewhere may purchase a resident hunting permit while on leave. The Military Reduced Cost Permit for hunting small game is also available for Missouri residents who are currently on full-time active duty in the National Guard or reserve forces.

The following residents and non-residents are not required to have a permit to hunt wildlife (except deer or turkey).

• Honorably discharged veterans who have 60% or greater service-connected disability
• Former prisoners of war
• Military members who are currently patients of the Warrior Transition Brigade, Warrior Transition Unit, or a military medical center

Migratory Waterfowl Requirements

All hunters age 16 or older must purchase the Missouri Migratory Bird Hunting Permit and the Federal Duck Stamp when hunting migratory waterfowl. In addition, hunters are required to have proof of their participation in the Harvest Information Program (HIP).

Permit Expiration

Permits are good from the date of purchase through the last day of February. Missouri residents are able to purchase a lifetime hunting permit.
