How Do I Get My State Hunting License?

Depending on your age, you may be required to have the Hunter Education Certificate in order to legally buy a license or permit to hunt.

  1. Complete the Nevada hunter education certification requirements.
  2. Choose the correct license type.
  3. Buy the license through the Nevada Department of Wildlife website or a Nevada–approved agent.

Types of Nevada Hunting Licenses

Nevada Resident

A resident is a person who has lived in Nevada for at least six months. Non-resident full-time students who attend an institution in Nevada for at least six months are considered residents.

All Nevada residents age 12 or older must have a resident hunting license. Additional licenses and tags may be required to hunt specific game species.

Non-Resident

All non-residents age 12 or older must have a non-resident hunting license. Additional licenses and tags may be required to hunt specific game species.

Youth Hunting License

All youth under age 12 may not legally hunt big game in Nevada.

Nevada residents between the ages of 12 to 15 years old may purchase the Junior Hunting License. In addition, residents between the ages of 16 to 17 may purchase the Pre-Adult Hunting License.

Non-residents age 17 or under may purchase the non-resident Pre-Adult Hunting License.

Senior Hunting License

Nevada residents age 65 or older who have lived in Nevada for at least six months may purchase the Senior Hunting License.

Nevada residents with severe physical disabilities may be eligible for the Severe Disability Hunting License. Additional permits may be available. Visit the Nevada Department of Wildlife website for more details.

Military and Veteran License

Active-duty military members who are permanently stationed in Nevada may purchase a resident hunting license. In addition, active-duty military members who are Nevada residents but stationed elsewhere may purchase the Serviceman’s Hunting License.

Resident veterans who have 50% or more service-connected disability may be eligible for the free Disabled Veteran Hunting & Fishing License.

Migratory Waterfowl Requirements

All hunters age 16 or older must purchase the Federal Duck Stamp when hunting migratory waterfowl. All hunters between the ages of 12 to 64 must purchase the Nevada Duck Stamp. In addition, hunters are required to have proof of their participation in the Harvest Information Program (HIP).
