Welcome to the Prescribed Burning for Missouri Land Managers class! This online course, with its supporting documents, is training and reference for landowners and land managers who are interested in using prescribed fire to restore and manage natural communities. The Missouri Department of Conservation (MDC) promotes the careful use of prescribed fire as an effective and cost-efficient method of managing grasslands, glades, savannahs and woodlands.
The course consists of five units. At the end of each unit is a five-question quiz. Four of the five questions must be answered correctly before you can proceed to the next unit. After completing all five units, you will take a 50-question final exam. A passing score is 80 percent (40 correct answers). After successfully completing the online portion of the class, you will need to attend a field day hosted by MDC. At the conclusion of the field day, you will receive a certificate of completion signed by MDC staff. The printable/down loadable Supporting Document offered at the end of the course contains the same information as the online course. It is available for those who may not have internet access or those that may want reference to the online content.
This course was made possible by grant funding proved by the US Forest Service. In order for these funds to be used, we must collect the time you have spent completing this online course along with time spent and miles driven to participate in the field day exercise. Please print the “Course Time and Mileage Match Sheet” and keep track of your time and mileage. This sheet will be collected when you arrive to the field day exercise.
