Ring head/circular firing
With ring head or circular firing the perimeter of a burn area is ignited in a sequence so that the ensuing fire fronts converge toward the center.
- Purpose
- Typically used for large burn units
- Advantages
- Can be used in all fuel types
- Rapid ignition
- Minimizes control problems along perimeter
- High fuel consumption
- Good smoke dispersion
- Disadvantages
- Strong convection could result in spot fires
- Could cause loss of control if wind is not correct or spotting potential extremely high
