How Do I Get My State Hunting License?

Depending on your age, you may be required to have the Hunter Education Certificate in order to legally buy a license or permit to hunt.

1. Complete the Utah hunter education certification requirements.
2. Choose the correct license type.
3. Buy the license through the Utah Division of Wildlife Resources website or a Utah–approved agent.

Types of Utah Hunting Licenses

Utah Resident

A resident is a person who has lived in Utah for at least six months. Active-duty military members and non-resident full-time students who have attended an institution in Utah for at least 60 days may be considered residents. All Utah residents must have the Basic Hunting License or the Combination License (Basic Hunting License and Basic Fishing License). These licenses allow hunters to hunt small game, including most waterfowl species and upland game. Additional permits are required to hunt other game species.

Non-Resident

All non-residents must have the Basic Hunting License or the Combination License. These licenses allow hunters to hunt small game, including most waterfowl species and upland game. Additional permits are required to hunt other game species.

Youth Hunting License

Utah residents and non-residents age 17 or under may purchase a reduced-fee Basic Hunting License or Combination License. Additional permits are required to hunt other game species. All hunters under the age of 16 must be accompanied by a parent, a legal guardian, or a responsible person age 21 or older. Senior Hunting License

Utah residents 65 or older may purchase a reduced-fee Basic Hunting License or Combination License. Additional permits are required for other game species.

Disability License

Utah offers special licensing accommodations for hunters with disabilities. A current hunting license is required, and additional permits are required to hunt other game species. Visit the Utah Division of Wildlife Resources website for more details.

Military and Veteran License

Active-duty military members who are stationed in Utah may purchase a resident hunting license. In addition, active-duty military members who are Utah residents may purchase a resident hunting license.

Utah does not offer a hunting license specifically for veterans.

Migratory Waterfowl Requirements

All hunters age 16 or older must purchase the Federal Duck Stamp when hunting migratory waterfowl. In addition, hunters are required to have proof of their participation in the Harvest Information Program (HIP).

License Expiration

Hunting licenses are good for 365 days from the date of purchase.
