Do you need Utah education?

If you were born after December 31, 1984, you must provide proof that you’ve passed a furharvester education course and an Instructor-Led Field Day that is approved by the Utah Division of Wildlife Resources before you can obtain a furbearer license, a bobcat permit, or a marten permit.

All Utah Today’s Trapper Course content has been developed in conjunction with the Utah Division of Wildlife Resources.

After Passing the Course

After successfully completing this course, you also must complete the Field Day. For more information about the Field Day, go to https://wildlife.utah.gov/online-furharvester-course.html.

After successfully completing the Field Day, you will receive a Trapper Education Certification Card and patch from the Utah Division of Wildlife Resources by mail. The Trapper Education Certification Card allows you to legally purchase a furbearer permit and apply for bobcat and martin permits. You can purchase a furbearer permit at any Utah Division of Wildlife Resources Office, license vender, or online.

Is the Utah Today’s Trapper Course approved by the Utah Division of Wildlife Resources?

The Utah Today’s Trapper Course is approved and accepted by the Utah Division of Wildlife Resources.

Is my Utah Trapper Education Certification Card accepted elsewhere?

Some U.S. states, provinces, and other countries that have mandatory hunter education requirements will accept the Trapper Education Certification Card. (This is known as “reciprocity.”) Students are advised to check with their state or the state where they will be trapping to ensure acceptance and that all trapper education requirements are met.

Quizzes and/or Exams

I failed a unit quiz. Have I failed the course?

If you fail a unit quiz, you must restudy the unit and take the quiz again until you pass. You must score at least 80% on the unit quizzes to pass.

Do I have to take an online exam?

The Final Exam is the exam you take at the end of the online course. You must score at least 80% on the exam to pass. You have unlimited attempts to pass the exam. If you don’t complete the exam in one session, don’t worry. When you log in later, you will be taken to the first unanswered question of the exam.

What is the proof of online Utah Today’s Trapper Course completion?

Once you pass and pay for the online course, you will be able to immediately print out the Course Completion Certificate. This is your proof of online course completion. You can print the Course Completion Certificate right then, and/or request that a PDF be emailed to you. This certificate EXPIRES 365 days after course completion.

What is the permanent Utah Trapper Education Certification Card?

The Trapper Education Certification Card is proof that you have successfully completed all the education requirements. The Trapper Education Certification Card will be mailed to you by the Utah Division of Wildlife Resources after you complete all certification requirements.
