How do I get my Vermont Hunter Education Certificate?

Study and pass the free course. Throughout the Vermont Hunter Education Traditional Course, you’ll be tested on what you’ve learned.

If you are 18 years or older, after successfully completing the online course, you’ll immediately print out your permanent Hunter Education Certificate.
If you are under 18 years of age, or opted to take the Homework Course, you’ll immediately print out your proof of online course completion, which you will need to bring with you to the Homework In-Person Component. You need to locate and sign up for the Homework In-Person Component. To sign up, go to https://www.register-ed.com/programs/vermont.
Remember: Passing the online course does not guarantee you a spot at the Homework In-Person Component.
3. Get your Vermont Hunter Education Certificate.
If you are 18 years of age or older, after successfully completing the Traditional Course, you’ll immediately print out your Hunter Education Certificate.
If you are under 18 years of age, or opt to take the Homework Course, you’ll immediately print out your proof of online course completion, which you will need to bring with you to the Homework In-Person Component. Is my Vermont Hunter Education Certificate accepted elsewhere?
All U.S. states, provinces, and other countries that have mandatory hunter education requirements will accept the Vermont Hunter Education Certificate. Likewise, Vermont will accept Hunter Education certifications that are issued by other jurisdictions that meet official IHEA-USA requirements. (This is known as “reciprocity.”)

What is the proof of online Vermont Hunter Education Traditional Course completion?
Once you pass and pay for the online traditional course, you will be able to immediately print your proof of online completion and/or request that a PDF be emailed to you.
- After completing the online Homework Course, which is mandatory for those under the age of 18 but open to all ages, you will need to bring this document with you to your Homework In-Person Component.
What is the permanent Vermont Hunter Education Certificate?
The Hunter Education Certificate is proof that you have successfully completed all the hunter education requirements and allows you to legally purchase a hunting license in Vermont.
- If you complete the Traditional Course, which is open to Vermont residents aged 18 and older, you will be fully certified to hunt in Vermont upon completion of the online course.
- If you complete the Homework Course, which is mandatory for those under the age of 18 but open to all ages, you will receive the Hunter Education Certificate from the Vermont Fish and Wildlife Department after you successfully complete the Homework In-Person Component.
