How Do I Get My State Hunting License?

Depending on your age, you may be required to have the Hunter Education Card in order to legally buy a license or permit to hunt.

1. Complete the Wyoming hunter education certification requirements.
2. Choose the correct license type.
3. Buy the license through the Wyoming Game and Fish Department website or a Wyoming–approved agent.

Types of Wyoming Hunting Licenses

Wyoming Resident

A resident is a person who has lived in Wyoming for at least one year. Active-duty military members and their dependents stationed in Wyoming for at least 90 days are considered residents.

All Wyoming residents age 12 or older must have a resident hunting license. They must purchase the Conservation Stamp. Additional stamps and permits may be required. Visit the Wyoming Game and Fish Department website for exemptions.

Non-Resident

All non-residents age 12 or older must have a non-resident hunting license. They must purchase the Conservation Stamp. Additional stamps and permits may be required.

Youth Hunting License

Wyoming residents and non-residents ages 12 to 17 may purchase a youth hunting license to hunt big game. Additional stamps and permits may be required. Visit the Wyoming Game and Fish Department website for more details.

Senior Hunting License

Wyoming residents who are at least 75 years old and who have lived in Wyoming for at least 50 years continuously may be eligible for a Pioneer License. They are not required to purchase the Conservation Stamp.

Wyoming residents who are at least 70 years old and who have lived in Wyoming for at least 50 years continuously may be eligible for a Pioneer Heritage License. They are not required to purchase the Conservation Stamp.

Disability License

Wyoming residents and non-residents with a disability may be eligible for disabled hunting permits. Additional stamps and permits may be required. Visit the Wyoming Game and Fish Department website for more details.

Military and Veteran License

Active-duty military members who are permanently stationed in Wyoming may purchase a resident hunting license. They must have lived in Wyoming for at least 90 days. In addition, active-duty military members who are Wyoming residents but deployed to a combat zone may be eligible to receive free licenses while on leave. They are not required to purchase the Conservation Stamp.

Resident veterans who have 100% disability may be eligible for the free One Hundred Percent (100%) Disabled Veteran Bird, Fish and Small Game License. They are not required to purchase the Conservation Stamp.

Migratory Waterfowl Requirements

All hunters age 16 or older must purchase the Federal Duck Stamp when hunting migratory waterfowl. All hunters age 14 or older must have the Game Bird License, Conservation Stamp, and Harvest Information Program (HIP) Permit.

License Expiration

Hunting licenses are good for the calendar year. Wyoming residents who have lived in the state for at least 10 years are able to purchase a lifetime hunting license.
