Commission
Under the direction of the five-member Arizona Game and Fish Commission (Commission), the Department has statutory authorities related to wildlife, watercraft and off-highway vehicles. The Commission is responsible for establishing policies and rules for the management, preservation and harvest of Arizona’s wildlife.
Commissioners are typically appointed to serve a five-year term. In accordance with state statute, the Commission is required to maintain political balance, so no more than three members can be from any one political party. To spread representation throughout Arizona, no two members may be from the same county. The Arizona Game and Fish Commission Appointment Recommendation Board (Board) interviews and recommends candidates for appointment to the Commission. The governor nominates a commissioner from the list submitted by the Board and with the consent of the Senate appoints the selected member.
The Department’s Director is appointed by and reports to the Commission.
