Hemorrhagic Disease: What You Can Do
During field dressing, if you notice something that looks strange, keep your organs intact. Major organs—such as the lungs, heart, liver, kidney and spleen—should be kept cold or frozen. Animals reported to be showing signs of the disease can be targeted and tested on a case-by-case basis and can be diagnosed by laboratory testing.
If you see something, say something! If you find sick or dead animals near water sources, there is a chance that they may have had HD. In the case of EHD or BTV, if you notice animals acting irregularly, report it to the Wildlife Disease Hotline at 877-972-8426.
