Pneumonia in Bighorn Sheep: Signs and Symptoms

If you are fortunate enough to be drawn for a bighorn sheep tag here in Arizona, congratulations! Pneumonia is not present in all of Arizona’s bighorn sheep populations. Unfortunately, infected animals don’t turn bright pink, so it is crucial that hunters are aware of the signs and symptoms of a pneumonia infection and help Arizona Game and Fish keep track of possible infections. Signs and symptoms include:

  • Coughing
  • Nasal discharge
  • Head shaking
  • Drooping ears
  • Fever
  • Lethargy
