How to Report Deer and Wild Turkeys
The hunter whose name is on the Transportation Tag must report the animal using one of the following:
- Online Harvest Reporting System
- Telephone Harvest Reporting System at 1-800-771-4692
- License vendor location that participates in the Electronic Licensing System for Iowa (ELSI)
To report your harvest, you will need the 9-digit harvest registration number that is printed on the Harvest Report Tag (top portion) and on the Transportation Tag (bottom portion) that you have attached to the deer or turkey.
You also will need the following information to report your harvest.
- Deer
- Sex of the deer
- Doe
- Button buck
- Antlered buck or "spike" buck (buck with non-forked antlers)
- Shed-antler buck
- County in Iowa where the deer was harvested
- Fall Turkey
- Beard length of the turkey
- Whether the bird was harvested on public or private land
- County in Iowa where the turkey was harvested
- Spring Turkey
- Length of the turkey’s longest spur
- Whether the bird was harvested on public or private land
- County in Iowa where the turkey was harvested
The Harvest Reporting System will give you a confirmation number. Write this number on the Harvest Report Tag, and then attach this tag to the leg of the animal.
Keep both the Transportation Tag and the Harvest Report Tag attached to the animal until it is processed for food or taken to a taxidermist, and while it is being stored.
