Penalties for Violating Hunting Laws
If you are convicted of a hunting violation, the court will assess penalties. In addition to court penalties for hunting violations, you also must reimburse the state for the value of the animal(s). Here are examples of animal values.
- Antlered deer more than 150 gross inches (based on the Boone and Crockett Club's measurements):
- $5,000 to $10,000 per animal and 80 hours of community service or…
- $10,000 to $20,000 (instead of community service)
- Antlered deer 150 gross inches or less:
- $2,000 to $5,000 per animal and 80 hours of community service or…
- $4,000 to $10,000 (instead of community service)
- Antelope, buffalo, elk, or moose: $2,500 per animal
- Crane or swan: $1,500 per animal
- Endangered or threatened species: $1,000 per animal
