Reporting and Tagging Requirements for Bobcats and Otters
You must contact your local conservation officer within 24 hours if you harvest a bobcat or an otter.
- Your report will be included in the daily update of harvest totals and remaining quotas.
- The updates are available on the DNR’s recorded hotline at 515-281-5918 or website.
Within seven days of submitting your report, you must meet with your local conservation officer to get a Convention on International Trade in Endangered Species of Wild Fauna and Flora (CITES) tag. The CITES tag must:
- Be applied before the animal is skinned and remain with the animal until it is sold or…
- Be retained at all times for an animal that is kept for taxidermy or educational purposes.
The CITES tag is required by the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service for the commercial export of the skins of six native species, including bobcats and river otters.
