Official Iowa Hunter Ed Course on Trapping Responsibly and Safely

The Iowa Trapper Course fee is $34.50.

Iowa currently does not require hunters or trappers to complete a fur harvester education course to hunt or trap in Iowa. However, you do need resident or nonresident licenses and stamps to hunt or trap in Iowa. All licenses, fees, and stamps must be carried on your person while hunting or trapping.

This course is for hunters interested in learning more about trapper education or who plan to hunt or trap in a state that requires fur harvester education. Please contact the state you are wishing to hunt or trap in for the most up-to-date requirements.

There is no minimum age requirement to take this online course.

You do not have to be a resident of Iowa to take this online course.

The Iowa Trapper Course is approved and accepted by the Iowa Department of Natural Resources.

Some U.S. states, provinces, and other countries that have mandatory hunter education requirements will accept the Trapper Education Certification Card. (This is known as “reciprocity.”) Students are advised to check with their state or the state where they will be trapping to ensure acceptance and that all trapper education requirements are met.

If you fail a unit quiz, you must restudy the unit and take the quiz again until you pass. You must score at least 80% on the unit quizzes to pass.

The Final Exam is the exam you take at the end of the online course. You must score at least 80% on the exam to pass. You have unlimited attempts to pass the exam. If you don’t complete the exam in one session, don’t worry. When you log in later, you will be taken to the first unanswered question of the exam.

Once you pass and pay for the online course, you will be able to immediately print out the Trapper Course Completion Certificate. This is your proof of online course completion. You can print the Trapper Course Completion Certificate right then, and/or request that a PDF be emailed to you. This certificate EXPIRES 365 days after course completion.

The Trapper Education Certification Card is proof that you have successfully completed all the education requirements. The Trapper Education Certification Card will be mailed to you after you complete all certification requirements.
