About the Today’s Trapper Course

The Today’s Trapper Course is for trappers who wish to further their trapper education or who plan to hunt or trap in a state where furharvester education is mandatory. Please contact the state you wish to hunt or trap in for the most up-to-date education requirements.

You must be at least 11 years old to take this online course.

You do not have to be a resident of Montana to take this online course.

All first-time trappers must either complete a Montana trapper education course or have purchased three prior years of trapping licenses.

After This Course

MUST COMPLETE FIELD DAY

Upon successful completion of this course, you also must complete the required in-person Field Day.

After successfully completing the Field Day, you will receive a your permanent trapper education certification from Montana Fish, Wildlife & Parks. The certification allows you to legally purchase a trapping license in Montana. You can register for your field day here.

Course Approval and Acceptance

Is the Montana Today’s Trapper Course approved by Montana Fish, Wildlife & Parks?

The Montana Today’s Trapper Course is approved and accepted by Montana Fish, Wildlife & Parks.

Is my Montana Certificate of Completion accepted elsewhere?

Some U.S. states, provinces, and other countries that have mandatory hunter education requirements will accept the Certificate of Completion. (This is known as “reciprocity.”) Students are advised to check with their state or the state where they will be trapping to ensure acceptance and that all trapper education requirements are met.

Quizzes and/or Exams

I failed a unit quiz. Have I failed the course?

If you fail a unit quiz, you must restudy the unit and take the quiz again until you pass. You must score at least 80% on the unit quizzes to pass.

Do I have to take an online exam?

The Final Exam, for the online portion, is the exam you take at the end of the online course. You must score at least 80% on the exam to pass. You have unlimited attempts to pass the exam. If you don’t complete the exam in one session, don’t worry. When you log in later, you will be taken to the first unanswered question of the exam.

About Your Certification

What is the proof of online Montana Today’s Trapper Course completion?

Once you pay for and pass the online course, you will be able to immediately print out the Field Day Qualifier. This is your proof of online course completion. You can print the Field Day Qualifier right then and/or request that a PDF be emailed to you. You will need this certificate to take the required in-person field day to receive your final certification.

Replacement of Lost or Damaged Documents

How do I replace my permanent card or certificate if I’ve lost it or it has been damaged?

To replace a lost or destroyed Certificate of Completion, log in to the course and print a new one.
