The Restricted Game Hunting Licence (R-Licence) allows you to hunt game and feral animals on public land that has been declared and opened to hunting, or on private land with the permission of the landholder.

New South Wales Department of Primary Industries Requirements

There is no minimum age to take this course. You must be at least 12 years old to apply for an R-Licence.

You do not have to be a resident of New South Wales to take this online course.

About this course

The online R-Licence Accreditation course has been divided into two (2) sections.

  1. Section 1: Compulsory learning – NSW Hunter Education program

    This section contains compulsory learning that will give you the basic knowledge required to be safe, ethical and responsible hunters.

  2. Section 2: R-Licence categories

    There are three (3) hunting methods permitted to be used when hunting on public land in NSW:

    • Firearms (rifles, shotguns and blackpowder firearms)
    • Bows
    • Dogs

These methods are referred to as ‘R-Licence categories’. To use any of these hunting methods on public land, you must first become accredited for the relevant category by completing the training module in this course.

Once you have successfully completed Section 1 and the R-licence categories in Section 2, you must print out or save the Accreditation Form that you receive. This Accreditation Form must be attached to your R-Licence Application.

Please note, if you are not permitted to:

  • hold an Australian Firearms Licence, you must not select the Firearms category when you apply for your R-Licence.
  • legally own dogs, you must not select the Dogs category when you apply for your R-Licence.

2. Print or save your R-Licence Accreditation Form – Hunting with Bows Accreditation Form.

After successfully completing the online course, you’ll be able to immediately print out or save your R-Licence Accreditation Form – Hunting with Bows Accreditation Form. Your R-Licence Accreditation Form is not a licence and does not permit you to hunt on New South Wales public land.

3. Apply to the New South Wales Department of Primary Industries to get your Certificate of Completion - R-Licence - Hunting With Bows.

Go to the New South Wales Department of Primary Industries website and complete the application form. Make sure you attach your R-Licence and your evidence of your Approved Hunting Organisation membership.
