What You Learned
Game species in Virginia include small game, upland game birds, migratory game birds, waterfowl, turkey, big game, and furbearers.
Some hunters must complete a DWR–approved hunter education course before they can purchase a hunting license.
DWR issues different types of licenses and permits, depending on the game you plan to hunt or trap. In addition to your license(s), you may need a Harvest Information Program number, Virginia Migratory Waterfowl Conservation Stamp, and/or Federal Duck Stamp. If you are required to have a hunting license, you must carry it with you while hunting.
Hunting hours, seasons, and bag limits are determined by the species being hunted and your hunting location.
