Displaying an Identification Tag
In Pennsylvania, all traps, including cable devices, are required to be marked with an identification tag that indicates, in legible English, the owner’s first and last name, legal address, and/or trapper identification number as issued by the Game Commission.
- Prior to deploying a cable device, you should affix an appropriate identification tag to the set in a durable manner so that it cannot inadvertently be lost or removed due to the actions of a captured animal.
- Identification tags on water sets should be placed so that they are above water or ice level and are clearly visible for inspection.
- Identification tags can be made at home or purchased commercially from a trapper’s supply house with your information inscribed.
Obtaining an Identification Number
Trapper identification numbers are issued by each Pennsylvania Game Commission regional office.
- To get an ID number, you must complete the Application for Trapper Identification Number and apply to the Pennsylvania Game Commission office that has jurisdiction in your county.
- A list of the contact information for each region is available on the Game Commission website.
