Course Outline

Laws and regulations for cable devices are designed to safeguard the public, protect domestic animals and pets, provide for animal welfare, and conserve wildlife populations.

  • Laws and regulations must be followed closely in order to accomplish these objectives and to protect trapping as a legitimate form of wildlife management and outdoor recreation. Trappers who fail to follow the laws and regulations also endanger the trapping privileges of all trappers.
  • In Pennsylvania, laws and regulations give the legal requirements for trapping, including the use of cable devices, by defining what type of equipment and associated components are allowed, where sets can and cannot be located, how often sets have to be checked, and how animals may be handled, among other things.
  • Failure to follow laws and regulations could result in citations, fines, loss of privileges and/or other penalties.
