Making a Basic Cable Restraint: Part 2
To complete the basic cable restraint, add either an end swivel or an inline swivel.
- For an end swivel, follow these steps.
- Thread a swivel, followed by a swivel washer, onto the cable.
- Install an end stop on the end of the cable, and crimp it with a swaging tool or mallet to complete the restraint.
- Attach an identification tag to the swivel or anchor loop of the cable restraint that clearly identifies the trapper as required by the Pennsylvania Game Commission.
- For an inline swivel, follow these steps.
- Cut a section of cable approximately 24 inches from the end opposite the figure-seven bend.
- On one side of the 24-inch cable, place a double ferrule, loop the cable through an inline swivel, and insert it back through the ferrule creating a loop in the cable that contains one end of the swivel. Crimp the ferrule with a swaging tool or mallet.
- Insert the other end of the 24-inch cable into another double ferrule, and return back through, creating a loop in the cable. Crimp the ferrule with a swaging tool or mallet.
- Insert the end of the cable restraint that is opposite the figure-seven bend into a double ferrule, pass it through the inline swivel, and return it through the double ferrule. Crimp the ferrule with a swaging tool or mallet.
- Attach an identification tag to the swivel or anchor loop of the cable restraint that clearly identifies the trapper as required by the Pennsylvania Game Commission.
